Where Do Our Logs Come From?
We source our firewood from the Peak District wherever we can, from Peak Park and National Trust land. Buying locally means we know where our timber has come from, and we can keep the journey from woodland to log store as short as possible.
The Peak District can’t always supply everything we need, especially in a busy winter. When local supplies run low, we bring in lorry loads of timber from further afield in the UK. Wherever it comes from, every log we sell is British timber, grown, cut, split, dried and delivered in Great Britain. We don’t sell imported firewood.
So when we talk about logs from the Peak, we mean firewood that’s been sourced locally wherever possible, and dried and delivered by a local team based in the Hope Valley.
From Peak District Woodland to Your Log Store
Every one of our logs goes through the same process, from sourcing in the Peak District to drying in our solar-powered kiln.
- Sourcing – with a background in arboriculture, our team selects quality hardwood, sourced from the Peak District wherever we can and topped up with British timber from elsewhere in the UK when needed.
- Cutting and splitting – we cut the timber into logs of 8–10" or 10–12", so you can choose the length that fits your stove, and split it to a consistent size.
- Air-drying – our split logs go straight into vented cages in our open barn, where moisture can escape naturally. This reduces the time they need in the kiln.
- Kiln-drying – we finish the logs in our own solar-powered kiln here in the Hope Valley, using battery stores to keep it running through the winter months.
- Certification – all our firewood is Ready to Burn certified, with a moisture content below 20%, typically around 18%.
- Delivery – we deliver your logs across the Peak District, Sheffield and Chesterfield, with a complimentary rain cover on rainy days.

Why Choose Locally Sourced British Firewood?
Locally sourced British firewood is traceable, travels fewer miles and supports the woodlands it comes from. Here’s why we think it’s worth choosing logs from the Peak District over firewood shipped in from further away:
- Fewer firewood miles – when our logs come from the Peak District, they only travel a short distance from the woodland to our kiln and on to your door.
- You know where it’s from – we can tell you where our timber comes from, and every log is British grown.
- No overseas shipping – firewood brought into Great Britain from abroad is monitored by the Forestry Commission because wood can carry tree pests and diseases (see GOV.UK). Our British-grown logs aren’t shipped in from overseas.
- Supporting local woodland – buying Peak District firewood supports the work of looking after local woodland.
- Dried sustainably – our solar-powered kiln keeps the energy used to dry our logs as low-carbon as we can make it.

Burning Logs in the Peak District
Smoke control areas in the Peak District mostly cover towns, such as Buxton and Glossop, rather than the countryside. If you live in a smoke control area, you can only burn logs in a Defra-exempt stove. Elsewhere, dry, Ready to Burn logs still burn cleaner, produce less smoke and help keep the air clear in the Peak’s villages.
