Regulations on Burning Firewood in Cheshire

Ready to Burn 

From May 2021, all firewood sold in quantities below 2m³ must be certified as ‘Ready to Burn’. This means it must have a certified moisture content below 20%. At Westdale Logs, we are proud to be certified with Ready To Burn. Buying from us means that you can be sure your firewood is fully legal to burn in Cheshire. 

Certified Wood Burning Stoves

As lots of parts of Cheshire are smokeless zones, all wood-burning stoves must be certified as an ‘exempt appliance’. If you’re purchasing a wood-burning stove in Cheshire, you should ensure it’s ‘smoke-exempt’ and approved by a recognised body, such as DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) or HETAS (Heating Equipment Testing and Approval Scheme).

A portion of our logs are sourced from the Peak Park or National Trust each year, so you can be sure of our commitment to long-term sustainability. 

Our Kiln Drying Process

We produce our high-quality kiln-dried firewood all year round. Our split firewood is put straight into vented cages which are air-dried in our open barn to allow the moisture to escape. As a result, our logs need less time in our solar-powered kiln, helping us to be even more environmentally friendly.
